Spread the love

Dreams draw their material from the dreamer’s personal feelings, taste and opinions. They’re completely subjective. Clothes are also subjective. The point of different lines of clothing is to appeal to different tastes. Some like Hermes, others Prada, Ralph Lauren, and Louis Vuitton. Still others are happy getting their clothes from Wall-Mart or Target.

Different strokes for different folks.

Yet, even among those who buy from the same clothing line choose different styles based on age and taste. My point is that if individuals have different tastes in clothes and those tastes often overflow to their dreams. This means deciphering the meaning of dream clothes is not as easy as assigning clothing an all-inclusive meaning for every dream. If understanding dreams were that easy we’d all be dream experts.

What Dream Clothes Mean

Does that mean there is no common ground to begin our search for meaning? Not at all. Dream clothes most often represent what you’re doing now or what you will be doing; a gift or an ability you have to interact with others. If you start there, with that basic definition, and move outward through the context of the dream along with the dreamer’s personal taste and experience, it’s possible to discover the meaning of clothes in a dream.

Time to Grow

For example, if you find yourself wearing clothes that you’d never wear in your waking life, that’s telling you you’ve put on something out of the ordinary to walk in. The emotions you feel while wearing these unfamiliar clothes is a hint to whether the clothes carry a positive or negative meaning.

Speaking of out of the ordinary, what do you think it would mean if your dream clothes don’t fit because they’re too big? It means you need to grow into your gift.

Once you know the basic definition of what clothes mean in a dream, you have a springboard to discovering what specific clothing means in a dream; washing clothes, arranging clothes in a closet and missing pieces of clothing.

Washing Dream Clothes

Let’s begin with washing clothes. The act of washing clothes has to do with cleanliness. In waking life when we put on freshly washed clothes we feel clean. Clean clothes give us confidence to be around others and go out and do what needs to be done. Since we’re dealing with dreams it is possible that you find yourself trying to wash your clothes with dirty water.

Attempting to wash your clothes in dirty water simply means you’re using things of the past (past dirt) to try and prepare you to walk into your future. You’ll most likely have negative feelings associated with this, and its important to note what you’re feeling when you’re washing your clothes or putting them on.

If you’re washing the clothes of another person in your dream this can mean that you’re helping that person prepare to walk in something. Again, looking at your feelings, the state of the water and whose clothing you’re washing.

Arranging Dream Clothes in a Closet

I came across this dream on the internet about arranging clothes in a closet and thought it might be helpful to include.

Here’s the dream:

Tonight I had a dream where instead of sending nudes, people would send pictures of their favorite clothes arranged in the closet. My cell phone was full of various looks and styles of clothing.

The dreamer didn’t include their feelings associated with this dream, however it’s still possible to extract the basic meaning. Let’s start with the clothing symbol. Starting off with the basic definition of ‘what a person’s doing now or in the future’, it’s important to note the clothes are not being worn at the moment. The clothes are stored in the closet to it’s fair to say these clothes are put away for the future.

To Summarize

To summarize the dream, the dreamer finds themselves in a world where people don’t expose their vulnerability (nakedness), rather, they share an image of their favorite future things to wear. Without knowing the specific colors of the clothing, its possible they could be looking at the life’s purpose of others, even their own life purpose.

So what do you do if you’ve had a dream like this? This dream would be telling you that you have access to what others are destined to walk in. With a bit of exploration in your waking life, you could discover that your life’s purpose is to help others get their favorite clothes out of storage and begin to walk in them.

Missing Pieces of Dream Clothes

I’ve shown you a few instances of what clothing can mean in a dream, but what if you’re missing clothes? He’s a dream example.

Sometimes I have dreams I’m at my school or just going somewhere and I’ll be missing a piece of clothing. Usually I’m missing shoes or pants and I don’t realize it until someone tells me and then I freak out over it. I think it’s because I don’t sleep in shoes or I don’t sleep in my pants sometimes.

Avoid Assumptions

I shared this dream because the dreamer makes a classic dream mistake of assumption. They assume they’ve had the dream because of what they wear to bed. Believe it or not, one has little to nothing to do with the other. This dream has to do more with what the dreamer’s missing than what they’re wearing. The missing shoes represent the dreamer not walking in peace and their missing pants symbolizes they are missing a vital piece of what they are supposed to be walking in. When you assume things about your dreams, any thing, it’s easy to miss the answer that’s right in front of you.
